A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Happy New Year.

With the holidays coming to a close and the snowbirds returning, the season will be getting into full swing. There will be a lot of great golfing events as well as a number of fun social events and activities. Check your calendars and e-mails for dates and details. Your participation only enhances the richness of the experience.

The Christmas Party and the New Years Eve Party were great successes – good food, good bands and good friends – all the right ingredients.

The membership program is going well; we have reached our first milestone – further details to be announced soon. We continue to be optimistic and expect to have continued success attracting new members. Chip Dimon, our Marketing Director is a common sight around the clubhouse. He is busy hosting and “educating” prospective members. If you see him, stop and say hello – this is especially true as he users prospective members around.

On a closing note, I receive many comments from members on a great variety of subjects. To the best of my ability, I try to respond and/or direct them to the appropriate individuals, whether it be the General Manager, any of the Standing Committees or whatever. These comments and observations are important as we cannot function in a vacuum – member input is valued and respected. If you are unsure of a specific person to contact, please utilize the Member Relations e-mail for all Club related issues. That e-mail address is: member.relations@bermudadunescc.org

To each and every one of you and most Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Steve Hubbard

General Manager's Update

The New Year has arrived. Bermuda Dunes finished up last year with our club gaining 14 new members and several former members coming back. I like our start as we begin 2010. The golf business is changing everyday. It’s not like it used to be. Every club out there is looking for the next generation of members. It seems that people are making choices and family values come first over lifestyles. People are always going to retire and the desert is still a popular spot. Bermuda Dunes continues to offer great golf at the highest level and great people to socialize with. Our latest addition to Bermuda Dunes is Membership Director Chip Dimon and he’s really making an early impact with our membership drive. If there out there I’m confident Chip will find them. Still our members remain the number one source for attracting new members.

Bermuda Dunes now moves into the year 2010. Last year was very special to our club as we celebrated our 50th Anniversary. Besides celebrating our 50th Anniversary it was also the Bob Hope Classics 50th Anniversary. Did you know besides hosting the 50th Bob Hope Classic, we also hosted the 25th Silver Anniversary. The year was 1984 and John Mahaffey was the Bob Hope champion. I didn’t remember either but it’s incredible how much history our club really has. This New Year has in store a gradual transformation of our club’s lobby area with displaying memorabilia of Hope winners and our very own member memories of what our club has endured over the last 50 years. I’m excited to get this project going. You can help by bringing up any artifacts from long ago that you feel add value for all to see. Anything donated will always belong to the donor and can be taken back at any time. I have already collected items from past champions that will soon be on display.

Our expanded “Social” calendar is in full swing. We have several day trips planned as we begin January. To receive copies of our social calendar please contact Pam in the office. We will continue to add as the season continues. If you have traveled recently and feel our membership might enjoy a similar trip please contact Margie Dingfelder or myself.

Happy New Year,

Mark

Course News from the Superintendent

The past few months have been full of activity and projects including street resurfacing, renovations around the clubhouse and golf course over seeding. If you haven’t noticed – the practice range was leveled this past summer and expanded to allow more players to warm up.
There are quite a number of tournaments scheduled and member play is high. To accommodate the play we will be announcing the maintenance schedules via emails as well as posting schedules in the Pro shop to keep you up to date. High on the priority list are the treatments for Poa annua control throughout the golf course during the next few weeks.
One of our largest maintenance challenges this time of year is managing the wear and tear on the course caused by golf cars. Your cooperation in keeping golf cars away from putting greens and tee areas will help keep the ryegrass from getting worn out. A little cooperation will go a long way in keeping the course in top shape.

A special thanks goes out to those who are participating in the Adopt-a-Hole program. Your help filling divots and repairing ball marks is really appreciated.

This is a great time of year and I really enjoy meeting the membership. I wish all of you a happy holiday season.

See you on the course.

Darin

 Golf Shop – News Letter

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The golf staff at Bermuda Dunes would like to wish everyone a healthy, prosperous, and happy New Year. Golf in the desert is officially in full swing, and Bermuda Dunes is no different.   The next 5 months will be very busy with parties, events and tournament. Included in this issue are results from the Christmas Couples Member Guest and The Desert Rats tournaments along with dates of upcoming events.

THE GOLF SHOP
Remember that the golf shop is here for you, we have the ability to order any club from any vendor, even if we don’t carry it in our golf shop. We also want to remain competitive with local discounters, so bring us your best price. Bermuda Dunes wants to be your one stop shopping when it comes to buying golf equipment. As spring is approaching so are new lines of golf apparel. Make sure to swing by and get a first look at the new color combinations.

We have increased our teaching ability with the addition of Video Swing Analysis. The V1 system used by David Leadbetter’s Golf Academy allows the student to see a slow motion view of their swing and the adjustments made throughout the lesson. You can also see a side-by-side comparison with PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA Tour player’s swings.  This is a great tool for improving your game. All the golf shop staff are seasoned instructors and will be versed in using video software.

A TIP FROM THE PRO
Setting goals on the golf course is a must for anyone looking to play good golf. I have a goal every time I step onto the tee. The key is knowing what and how to set good goals. A goal that is not attainable can do more damage then good for most players. I like to pick things that are specific and helpful to me whether I attain them or not. Players should never set a score as a goal. It is not specific and if you attain it or not you don’t learn anything. Instead set goals like getting out of every greenside bunker (1st try). Something like this will build confidence if you succeed and give you a good measure of where you are in your bunker play if you don’t. You may find that long bunker shots are easier then short shots. This will give you more specific feedback to what you need to work on in your own game.

GOLF CAR MECHANIC
Electric Car Distributors will be here every Wednesday and Saturday. If you need to schedule an appointment to have your golf car looked at, see Luke or Andrew our Outside Service Department Supervisors. They can write up a work order and contact the mechanic for service.

GREEN HANDICAP FLAGS
Handicap Flags for the 08-09 season have expired. If you currently have a handicap flag or feel that you need one, please come into the golf shop and sign up for the 09-10 season. Remember to bring your DMV issued handicap placard or a letter from your doctor. Note that players with green flags must still pair up with other members in their group. Also golf cars cannot be closer then 40 feet from the greens and with a green flag 20 feet is the maximum.

COURSE ETIQUETTE
With the Adopt-A-Hole program in its second year and an overall more course conscious membership has made a big difference in the condition of our golf course. With the bulk of the season right in front of us it’s more important then ever to keep it up. Fixing ball marks, filling in divots, and keeping golf cars a minimum of 40 feet from the greens may seem simple but it is amazing how often these don’t get done. Golf Car traffic is especially hard on growing grass. When entering and leaving paths look for areas that are the greenest and stay away from grass that is yellow or thin. Take pride in your golf course, it truly is one of the best in the desert.

Membership News

I trust you all had a wonderful Christmas and want to wish you a Happy New Year.

My preliminary two months have been extremely gratifying and I am overcome with appreciation for my position, my co-workers, my environment, and the Members of this Country Club.

I will soon be meeting with the Membership Committee and Strategic Planning Committee for approval to implement an extremely aggressive marketing campaign. While spending countless hours of discussions with members, my mission remains consistent:

To position Bermuda Dunes Country Club as a highly coveted Private Club, anchored by a membership community that promotes camaraderie and fosters a world-class golfing experience.

Being in this position, I hear a lot about other clubs, how they are doing (or not doing), the financial health of the club, employee morale/fears, and the commitment level of members/staff etc.

I am so pleased to tell you, that after my initial time here, that I work with a very competent group of professionals who are extremely dedicated to this club, each other and to you, the members. Employee morale can be a deciding factor in the pursuit of corporate success. A workforce that looks forward to work every morning will be more successful, stable, and profitable. We have outstanding team spirit--thanks to our judicious management, our awesome facility/conditions, and a desire to be incomparable in the Coachella Valley.

I also applaud you, the members for your positive and optimistic portrayal of the Club. The past month of festive activities was touching, memorable and easy to appraise the warmth and friendliness of the members. BDCC is a place where people spend time together and care about each other—an intangible that is hard to match.

There remains over 90 Equity and Non Equity prospective client who have expressed a sincere interest in joining BDCC. My job is to bring them in.

Warmest Regards,

Chip

Upcoming Social Events

Margie's Social Corner

Happy New Year everyone! Let's start out the new year with some brand new activities through the club. My whole family and a few other members went on the Rose Parade Float trip on January 2nd. It was FANTASTIC! Seeing the floats up close was amazing. Gadabout Tours did a great job. I can't encourage you enough to take advantage of some of these trips that we are offering.

January 21st we have our Second Speaker in our Speaker series. He is Dr. Mark Sofonio, a local Plastic Surgeon speaking on New Treatments and Procedures in Plastic Surgery. He is a very popular speaker who brings big crowds so we are lucky to have him here. He gives free gift certificates for in office facials to everyone attending. Hors d'oevres will be served prior to the lecture. The lecture will be upstairs in the back of our clubhouse from 5pm to 6pm. See you there!

January 22nd we have special discount seats to the matinee performance of the famous Palm Springs Follies. If you have never seen them now's a good time! If you have already seen them you know that every year is a brand new show. Bring family and friends. Call Palm Springs Tours and More 777-2560 for reservations and details on where to meet etc. The cost is $59!

January 28th is our Fabulous Fashion Show Luncheon in our clubhouse. Roberta and I have put together a fun filled shopping day. Vendors will be here selling their wears from golf clothes to unique boutique type women's clothing, jewelry, purses etc. If you are willing to model some of the clothes please let us know. Our chef will prepare a wonderful luncheon for us as well. Mark your calendars! Call the office for reservations.

Please take note that the following is not on our social calendar so write it in! February 11th
I have reserved 40 seats for MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL at the discounted rate of $42.50 per person. It is for the 2pm matinee. It will be playing at the Annenberg Theater in Palm Springs so we can just carpool. 11 million people in 240 cities spent 90 minutes laughing out loud to the antics and songs regarding the change. Please sign up in the office with a $10 deposit.

I'd like some feedback as to how the clubs are starting off. I know that the Bridge club is off and running with lessons. The wine tasting club list was given to Dan Sullivan who offered to have wine tastings at his wine shop in Palm Desert. The gourmet dinner club has chosen a leader who has experience with this. She is in charge of contacting others on the list. I'm not sure that we have a leader for the Travel Club and Computer Club yet. I'm thinking that we should use Palm Springs Tours and More for the travel club and I know that there is a place in downtown Palm Springs that gives computer classes. If you want help getting any of these clubs going please contact Mark or myself. If anyone else is interested in joining these clubs please let us know and we will get your name to a leader of the group.

Don't miss out on these fun filled activities. If you have any questions please
feel free to call me at 760 345-5720 or email me at margiesportraits@aol.com.

Sincerely,

Margie Dingfelder
